Reachable Buyer Map

Prepared for S K Iyer · Colourtex Industries · August 2026
Dyestuff gets bought twice. Once by the technical seat that approves the shade, the fastness and the compliance file, and once by the purchase seat that signs the order. A sales network reaches whichever mills already sit near somebody calling on them, which is a coverage map rather than a market map. This one is the market: where the mills sit, who signs inside each segment, and roughly how many there are. It describes the market rather than your business, and there is nothing to buy at the end of it.
Indian wet processing units
Dyeing, printing and finishing houses, concentrated in a handful of clusters. The densest buying population in the world for reactive and disperse ranges, and the segment where a technical relationship, once built, outlasts the price conversation.
Who signs: works or technical head, head of dyeing, shade lab chemist, purchase head, and the managing director at family-run mills.
2,500 to 3,500
organized wet processing units across the main Indian clusters; several thousand smaller job workers sit below this line
Indian apparel and made-ups exporters
They do not buy the dye, they specify the standard the mill has to meet, which makes them the seat that decides which suppliers are acceptable at all. A different conversation from the mill sale and one that most dyestuff sales networks never have.
Who signs: sourcing head, technical or quality director, compliance manager.
6,000 to 9,000
registered apparel and made-ups exporters
Bangladesh dyeing and finishing
A small number of buyers controlling very large volume, tied directly to the export garment programs of European and US brands. Compliance requirements arrive from the brand and land on the mill, which makes the requalification cycle here unusually frequent.
Who signs: general manager technical, head of dyeing, director of procurement, group chairman at the larger houses.
350 to 500
wet processing mills attached to the export garment sector
Turkey and southern Europe finishing
The market closest to European brand compliance requirements and the one that pays for documentation rather than only for shade. Fewer units, higher expectations, and a shorter supply chain to the brands that set the restricted lists.
Who signs: technical director, head of laboratory, procurement manager.
1,000 to 1,500
textile finishing and printing companies across Turkey and southern Europe
Vietnam and Southeast Asia
Capacity is concentrated in a short list of enterprises rather than spread across thousands of small units, so this segment is reachable by name in a way the Indian market is not. Growing faster than it can be covered by an agent network.
Who signs: factory technical manager, head of dyeing, sourcing director at the group level.
150 to 250
dyeing and finishing enterprises across Vietnam and neighboring markets
Non-textile pigment buyers
Printing inks, coatings, plastics and paper. Same molecules, entirely different specifications, different roles and different buying rhythm. Not counted here because the register that would count them classifies by end product rather than by input.
Who signs: research and development head, technical director, procurement lead.
A separate market
reached through different roles; a textile field force rarely opens these accounts even when the product fits

Where the openings are

1
Two seats, one order. The shade is approved in the laboratory and the order is signed in purchase, and an agent usually has a relationship with one of the two. The laboratory seat is the one that decides whether you get sampled at all, and it is the seat least likely to be reached by a commercial visit.
2
Requalification is a moment, and it is visible. When a brand updates its restricted substance list, the mills below it have to requalify their suppliers. That window opens on a schedule and closes quickly. Watching several thousand mills for it is mechanical work, and waiting for a call is not a substitute.
3
Agent coverage selects for geography, not for fit. Where somebody calls there is a conversation, and where nobody calls there is silence, however well the range suits the mill. Most of a market this size sits in the second group, which is why it reads as empty rather than lost.
4
The exporters set the rules and rarely see a dyestuff sales call. They decide which chemistry is acceptable, then the mills buy inside those rules. Reaching that seat directly is a different message from the mill sale, and it is the one that changes the shape of the pipeline rather than the size of it.
Built from public market data, counts banded deliberately. Counts describe registered units and establishments rather than corporate groups, and classification is self-reported, so treat the bands as scale rather than a roll call. Small job-working units are not separately published in most of these markets.
